NREL

Windurance has developed an integral relationship with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). NREL is a leader in the U.S. Department of Energy's effort to secure an energy future for the nation that is environmentally and economically sustainable. Within the NREL is the The National Wind Technology Center (NWTC). Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains near Boulder, Colorado, the NWTC is a world-class research facility managed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy. NWTC researchers work with members of the wind energy industry (such as Windurance) to advance wind power technologies that lower the cost of wind energy through research and development of state-of-the-art wind turbine designs.

Windurance engineers have developed an excellent working relationship and report with NREL & NWTC. In October, 2006, Windurance engineers were invited to participate as speakers for the "Wind Turbine Reliability Workshop" hosted by Sandia National Lab in conjunction with NREL and AWEA (American Wind Energy Association.) Using their in-depth knowledge and research regarding pitch control systems, the Windurance engineers demonstrated the importance of utilizing blade pitch control systems and their role in wind turbine availability.

With the development of the ground-breaking adaptation of the NREL FAST program to the the user-friendly Windurance FAST software, Windurance has once again demonstrated its dedication to improving the usability of programs and software related to wind turbine technology. “Windurance FAST" is a graphical user interface for NREL FAST, which simulates wind turbine Fatigue, Aerodynamics, Structures, and Turbulence.
